A presentation entitled, Curriculum Modules that Integrate the Instruction of Mathematics and Computer Science, was made by Drs. Granger and Southerland with teacher Megan Crombie and graduate student Ashley Gannon at the annual UTeach National Conference sponsored by the University of Texas—Austin, June 21-23, 2022.
A paper entitled, Experience with Integrating Computer Science in Middle School Mathematics, by Gannon, A, Gavahi, M., Yuan, X., Whalley, D., Southerland, S., Andrews-Larson, C., Granger, E. was presented at the
Innovation and Technology in Computer Science Education annual meeting held in Dublin, Ireland in July of 2022.
An NSF supplement to the grant was prepared, submitted, and accepted in 2021 to fund a postdoctoral scholar and graduate student to draft educative curriculum materials to support teacher implementation of this integrated curriculum.
07/29/2021: Summer PD/Work session was completed. Drafts of module overviews, teacher note outlines to guide preparation of development of educative curriculum materials, and sample student task solutions were completed for five selected modules. These will guide the final development of educative curriculum materials for these five modules and for the additional eight remaining modules.
06/22/2021: CSIMMS paper on the implications of integrating computer science into middle school mathematics was presented by Gannon, Gavahi, Yuan, Whalley, and Southerland at the annual UTeach National Conference.
06/22/2021: CSIMMS paper on the influence of teacher beliefs, teaching contexts, and other experiences on implementation of modules in the classroom presented by Granger, Southerland, and Smith at the annual UTeach National Conference.
06/22/2021: CSIMMS paper on the design principles for the development of the modules presented by Andrews-Larson, Mauntel, Cloud, and Smith at the annual UTeach National Conference.
06/01/2021: The student materials for the 12 integrated Math/CS curriculum modules were finalized and application for Copyright was begun.
05/11/2021: STEM for All Video Showcase entry entitled Computer Science Integrated with Math in Middle Schools was made for the 2021 showcase.
07/30/2020: The 12 CS modules have been finalized for any final testing needed in the upcoming academic year.
07/21/2020: Writing retreat for CSIMMS team held to begin preparation of three manuscripts for publication.
06/30/2020: CSIMMS paper accepted for presentation at the national UTeach Annual Conference in Austin, TX. (Conference cancelled due to COVID-19 pandemic.)

08/09/2019: The 12 CS modules have been further refined following a year of testing in classrooms. They will undergo final testing in schools this coming academic year.
